Charcoal currents across bristol paper. The dark and lighter patches of peeling bark off of a paperbark tree became the inspiration for a study of tonal variation. The three drawings represent different inspirational areas in the bark of the tree.

Range

The range of words that we use can limit or expand the bounds of expression. The pages of this old dictionary become an exploration of the textural and textual possibilities of printed words on paper.

Provide

To consider "provide", I reversed the action to "receive" and glued cupcake receptacles to bristol paper and added watercolor and oil pastel lines. The cupcake wrappers proved to be unyielding recipients, however, only absorbing thicker watercolor strokes. How is it possible to be a reluctant recipient in the face of blatant generosity?
